Eileen Finlay was born in Maffra, North Gippsland in 1878. She mad a name for herself as an author with many short stories appearing in the papers in the 1940s. She was married to architect Alexander Finlay who was killed in a boating accident on Lake Tyers in 1921. They had two children Jock and Joyce. She was the author of 14 novels and many short stories. Her novels The Hills of Home, The Caravan Passes and The Caravan Returns, were all set outside Moe.
Her novel The Amateur was also published in Canada and America
